A retailer was recently criticized for marketing a push-up bikini top to young girls. At what age is it OK for girls to wear items such as push-up tops?

A retailer for tweens was recently lambasted for marketing a push-up bikini top to young girls.  What age do you think is appropriate for girls to wear "sexy" clothes?  What would you like to say to a retailer who markets these clothes to young girls?

I don't think it's ever appropriate for girls to wear sexy clothes. They have a lifetime as adults to make bad wardrobe decisions. Let little girls be little girls for as long as they can. Retailers can market what they want, but it's the job of parents to be sure that their daughters don't buy into the notion that their 12-year-olds can't be pretty unless they wear a push-up bra.

With the way the world is, the last thing little girls need is another tacky way to try & look older. Why in heaven's name can't the fashion industry make clothes that are hip looking but modest and age-appropriate? It isn't that hard!!

I think this is the dumbest thing I have ever heard! Let's be clear, push up anything is meant for grown women. I would give anything not to have to wear a push up bra! Why in the hell would I let my daughter wear one. Class starts at home. I'm very fortunate, when my 14 year old daughter heard the report, she even thought it was a joke! They can sell whatever they want, but I don't and won't buy it. Just plain dumb!

I would never buy this or thongs for my daughter. My daughter is still very young and does not understand any of this. However I am the adult/Parent and I understand and no way in Hell will I spend my hard earned money on this type of wear for my daughter....

I'm thinking as long as the t.v. shows this stuff the more the world will continue to show teenage kids dressing and acting in ways that are wrong.

No little girl under 18 needs to be wearing push-up's of any kind. There is enough temptation out there for the creeps of this world, let's not give them more. The reason this stuff is making it to market is because parents are buying it. To those parents......really? Do you really want your 10/12/14 year old flaunting her private stuff....that's what a push-up does. Craziness.

I don't really have a proble with young girls wearing a push up bra in their swim suits. It is not the job of a clothing retailer to provide children with morals that is a parents role. A mother must teach her daughter to be both powerful in her apperience and confident in her morals.
