A retailer was recently criticized for marketing a push-up bikini top to young girls. At what age is it OK for girls to wear items such as push-up tops?

A retailer for tweens was recently lambasted for marketing a push-up bikini top to young girls.  What age do you think is appropriate for girls to wear "sexy" clothes?  What would you like to say to a retailer who markets these clothes to young girls?

I think it depends on the child and where they are at in their life. For example, my daughter will still be 17 when she graduates high school. At that point I think she is more than capable of choosing how she presents herself to the world. I can have an opinion and offer guidance but at that point it's up to her. I certainly don't believe it should be allowed before high school though. As others have stated...let them be girls as long as possible before trying to make them in to "mini" women.

I dont know what a 10 year old had to push up but If they want to wear something with a little padding in it, I don't see what the big deal is. Society tells them thats what they should be doing so you could not blame them for wanting to do what they think they should be doing. If you are doing it as a parent, it's a little hypocritical to to be so against your child doing it.

This reminds me of the Halloween outfits out there for girls, borderline stripper attire. It's hard to find anything not so provocative for a tween. I don't mind cute looking bras and panties for the younger girls, but push ups are really pushing it saying that their bodies are not good enough and need an enhancement.

A young girl should not be able to entice older men! I believe young girls should be just that-YOUNG GIRLS! They will be women in a short time. When they become ready to be an adult and make decisions for themselves, then let THEM make the decision for theirselves!

Okay to wear a pushup bra after age 15, but it will depend on the top. Either way, if she wants "bigger-looking" breasts, there is always the option to sneak cotton balls or socks in the bra after she leaves the house. This way, at least you (the parent) can have a say.

bras for support sure, but push up? really? is that necessary? what image are we trying to project to girls at this age? i think it's downright horrible.

First of all what do most teenagers have to push up? Second being a mother I would not buy a pushup for my daughter unless she was going to prom and the dress needed it. Fashion is absurd, dumb and we are all too much of a slave to it.

With the world as creepy as it is sometimes, if I had a daughter I wouldnt want her walking around town dressed like that. Why do kids have to grow up so fast, nowadays?? Silly!

An unbelievable world this is now when things like this happen to such young girls. The sad part is that the girls only want to mimick what they see, hear, feel, etc. or be just like their peers because they see adults or friends wearing them so they "assume" it is ok. Like many others here have said, it is up to us as parents or grand parents to do what is best for our young girls and to teach them what we have learned. To answer the question, would I let my daughter or grand daughters wear something like that at such a young age? Absolutely NOT! It reminds me of when my daughter was 17 years old and she asked me to sign for her to get her tongue pierced and pay for it and I said no way! She had it done when she turned 18 AND paid for it herself.
