If you have a teen, do they enjoy reading for pleasure or do they prefer to do other activities in their spare time?

The third week in October is Teen Read Week. Does your teen enjoy reading or do they prefer to play sports or watch TV? Do you encourage reading in your household? What do your teens enjoy reading the most, or do they stick to books assigned from school?

My teen is a bookworm (27.5%)

My teen prefers to do other activities (20.5%)

I don't have a teenager (52.0%)

If you have a teen, do they enjoy reading for pleasure or do they prefer to do other activities in their spare time?

My daughter loves to both read and write. She loves it so much that she is taking a creative writing class in school. She wants to become an author. She had been reading since she was a small child. She loves it so much that she asks for B&N cards for the holidays. She will gladly spend $100.00 on books rather than junk. She does have a lot of other activities too, but reading is one of her favorites. Of course, she loves reading about vampires, lol.

I have a 14 year old daughter who loves to read and write also! She gets her love of reading from me, I've read to her since she was little and we set aside reading time in our house every night for everyone. I believe a love a reading will allow you to go far in life, whether it be to broaden your imagination or stretch your knowledge its a wonderful thing!

My daughter is 13 yrs old and she loves to read! I am an avid reader and so is she! She carry's a book wherever we go on log trips! She loves to pick and purchase her own books! Books have helped her in so many ways especially in writing assignments!

My daughter is 14 and cannot read enough! She struggled learning to read in 1st and 2nd grade. Once she mastered it, her grades picked up and she really began to enjoy it! SHe has an e reader but still prefers books!

My son and I both love to read - and we enjoy sharing books with each other. This is one of my favorite things about Shane - our shared love of meeting new friends and talking about them as if we were in the story with them :)

Sadly my 14 year old son hates to read unlike me who is the bookworm. Even for school reading assignment he will fight reading books. He would rather text or play video games or just hang out with friends. It is amazing to me how anyone can dislike reading.

I don't have a teen but I have a teen sister who likes to read all the time and write poetry. I myself am not a teen but love to read as well. My parents always had my siblings and I do the summer reading program at our library.

I do not have a teen but i still consider myself one being that im 19. For me, it takes a really really good book that has been recommended to me by a substantial amount of friends to read a book. I personally would rather be doing something else.

I have two teenage boys, one likes to read, the other doesn't. As a matter of fact, when he was little he didn't like me to read to him, while my other son could sit and listen to me read to him for hours.

None of my five kids like to read. I find it frustrating because I always had my nose in a book when I was young.
