2015's In-the-Moment Halloween Costume Trends and Giveaway

Each year we are introduced to a host of very in-the-moment costumes. Who can forget the Sarah Palin costumes of 2008 or last year’s parade of Orange is the New Black character costumes? 2015 appears to be a good year for topical humor halloween costumes, many of which were born right here on the internet.

Read on and enter to win a $50 Amazon Gift Card for a bit of Halloween costume shopping!

If we’re talking about being on trend, we can’t really have a 2015 Halloween without a Donald Trump costume. And apparently, even the Donald can be transformed into a suggestive costume complete with shorty-shorts, a red tie, a tiny jacket, and a pair of complimentary panties for some reason?

If you're a Star Wars fan, the reboot of the movie this year brings renewed interest in the francise. Dress up like Yoda or Dearth Vader, or of course Luke Skywalker or Princess Leia and relive your youth.

At this point in 2015, you’ve probably become well acquainted with the ‘Pizza Rat” video that has gone viral on YouTube. (And if you haven’t, you should probably check it out right away). The video shows a New York subway rat heroically carrying a slice of pizza down some stairs. I know that doesn’t sound very sexy, but in true Halloween trend fashion costume designers have found a way to sex it up with a revealing rat dress featuring pizza pockets.

Mashable reports about ‘the dress’ costume that is making it’s way on Halloween goers this year. For just $46.95 you can start up the old debate at any Halloween party: “It’s white and gold!” Soon followed by a, “NO! IT’S BLUE AND BLACK!” The costume itself is a dress that is half white and gold and half blue and black. But apparently the actual dress is on sale if you want to be even more authentic to the dress debate.

My grandchildren always want to dress as their favorite cartoon characters

There's so many ridiculous costumes out there, and so few appropriate for younger kids, especially girls. My kids are going with the more "traditional" superheroes, Ant Man and Captain America.

I disagree with all of the female costumes being referred to as "sexy", and I feel as though they are better described as degrading to women, trashy, and cheesy. Some of the costumes would be more acceptable if they showed less skin, but what I'm seeing just isn't right; however on a lighter note, my family and I are each going as a different horror movie characters. My boyfriend is going as Freddy Kruger and my three year old is going as chucky. I've yet to decide on my costume, though..

Almost all women's Halloween costumes are trashy--no thanks! Stick some leggings under that super short pizza rat costume and it would be cute! And, personally, I'd rather see the "Caitlyn Jenner" costume as the "Lion Killer Dentist" costume that comes with a severed lion head. Gross! My kids are going as Pikachu and Daniel Tiger: nice, sweet, innocent costumes.

I thought the rat costume was cute, but I don't have the "goods " for a costume like that anymore. I have 2 grandkids. One is 4 and is going to be Spiderman and one is 2 and picked out a cute monster costume. My daughter (their mom) is going to be a sexy batman. If I dress up, it's usually as a mime. It's easy to do and takes only some white and black makeup. I would love a gift card to be able to be something new and different.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have made a come back this year too, they should be included. The Donald Trump costume is ridiculous- sorry My daughter and her friends are dressing up as the ninja turtles this year.

I'm not sure what others are wearing this year, but there is a zombie walk tonight in our town, and over the years, I've seen some super creative zombies! I imagine a lot of those participants will wear the same thing for Halloween. As for me, I have a Star Trek costume and I'll probably wear that along with some latex Vulcan ears. It suits me. :)

I thought Halloween was about having the scariest costume, not the sexiest one. One year for Halloween I wore an old lady mask. Pretty soon I won't be needing a mask haha

I agree with costumes not always having to be sexy. I've been making my own the last few years, and I realized they have been more popular. I still purchase costumes for my kids, they like the typical popular characters.

There are too many costumes that sexualize women and young girls. A plus side to having boys they want to be super heros.

I think it's sad and hilarious at the same time, that a large number of new costumes this year are based soley on viral videos and social media. I find it commendable that the creators of these costumes are trying to keep up with the changing times. That being said, I am looking to dress up has Harley Quinn or Poison Ivy from Batman, and my honey wants to dress up as Joker. My daughter has chosen to be a Sailor Hello Kitty.

Very creative, I like the pizza rat and half and half dress.

I don't know why all of the costumes have to be "sexy". It's very difficult to find ladies costumes out there that are just more "family" oriented rather than "sexy". Beyond that issue, I love the pizza rat concept, so cool!

I think the pop culture costumes are silly but fun. My family is more into traditional costumes (I'll be a scarecrow).
