Teens seem to have things they want to buy...ok, many things! As parents, we want to give our children money but, also want to balance that with building responsibility and also ensuring security (has your teen ever lost the cash you gave them?!). Would you consider giving your teen a prepaid card instead of cash? Why or why not?

I would not want to give my child a pre-paid card; it would be too much like having a credit card and I rather my children not have credit cards. Credit cards are a trap for people who want, want, want and do not have the money to pay for it. Children may lose the cash but the same also applies to the pre-paid card. You giving them cash then you are still able to know what they are spending and still able to keep track of their spending. Responsibility is learned with cash as well as pre-paid cards. Part of the money given to my child should be banked and the other is spend on what they might want as long as it is reasonable.
I think a pre-paid card is a good idea. It gets them used to the responsibility of managing money. It is very easy just to swipe all the time, but this helps them be in control but with a limit
The pre-paid card is the way to go in my opinion. it gives the child an idea of what things cost and how much is left after purchase. builds a financial responsibility. used this with my son during his college days for his "wants". when the card ran out, he was out for the semester. learned quickly how to manage.
I find a prepaid card to be more safe than carrying cash!
I think it's a good idea, that way they don't have to worry about keeping up with the cash and possibly losing it.
Gift card is a great gift for kids. That's usually what i buy for them.
They don't always work at certain locations. I wouldn't want my child left high and dry because the card isn't working.
I already do this for my kids.
