Of the following compliments, which would you want to hear the most?

We asked this question about a year ago and thought that it would be fun to do it again!

As women, different things motivate us. A group of friends recently got together and starting comparing notes on compliments. One had recently been told that she was beautiful. She said that it made her day. Another said that she would prefer to hear that she is special.

Perhaps, different comments are appropriate at different times but, it got us thinking about what we most liked to hear. There doesn’t seem to be a one size fits all.

What do you like to hear and why?

I love you (39.8%)

You're beautiful (22.9%)

You're smart (14.7%)

You're special (16.0%)

You're funny (6.5%)

There is just something about a 3 year old telling you "I love you" without being promted. It is so different from someone saying something just because they think you want to hear it.

I would just like to be acknowledged. My husband tells me he loves me if I say it first...

I am fortunate to have a family who knows the value of saying "I love you", from my parents, to my spouse, and even my children. We all not only say it, be we act upon it so the love is heard and felt all throughout the family. Despite this blessing, I have always been my own worse critic when it comes to my appearance. So when someone tells me, "your so beautiful", it really makes me feel wonderful. It would really mean a lot to me to be able to hear it from people that I encounter on a daily basis, people other than my family.

I have been struggling with weight issues and it is tough to look at myself in a mirror. On a recent business trip, a man in the elevator said " Excuse me miss, I dont mean to be disrespectful, but you are very beautiful tonight. I think you should know that." Wow! Did I feel great. Having someone tell you that unprovoked is very powerful - it made me feel much lighter!

My husband tells me all of the above. Granted we do have normal marital disputes, but he is my real life prince charming and I truly adore him as I know he feels the same way, too. We've been married for 9 years and it gets better every year :)

I think 'I love you' encompasses all of the other sentiments. I'll take all 4 for the price of 1 please!

They are all wonderful things to hear, but when somebody thinks you're funny, then most likely you have helped to cheer them up or brighten their day. Nothing compares to happiness.

I guess it's just an emotional thing with me, or a deeper "something" that I talk about here as it may take forever for me to type it all... but I think I'd rather be told I'm beautiful.... with sincerity, of course. I feel love and loved by almost everyone, so.....
