Would you consider giving your teen a prepaid card instead of cash?

Teens seem to have things they want to buy...ok, many things!  As parents, we want to give our children money but, also want to balance that with building responsibility and also ensuring security (has your teen ever lost the cash you gave them?!).  Would you consider giving your teen a prepaid card instead of cash?  Why or why not?

    I would stick with cash. I dont want the to get the hang of using prepaid or credit cards.

    It's easier for them to order stuff online - under my supervision, OF COURSE. They love to hunt for the best bargains & they can see the value to bargain shopping. Things are oftern less expensive online.

    I agree w/ HellcatHousewife, if they can't buy what they want w/ the card, they shouldn't be buying it!

    We tried this though. My mom sent my kids prepaid cards in thier names for christmas last year and had them activated and everything, but when we went to spend the money on them they came up invalid because my kids are not 18. So be careful what you do. It took a long time to get everything switched over to my name for them so we could get the money off of them for them to be able to spend it.

    I think it is much safer to give them a prepaid card and a small amount of money just to have on hand for little minor items such as pop, water, ect...They are wonderful to have so there would be no need to worry in reguards to lossing cash.

    We do it for Christmas Gifts because they can spend the in whatever store they like. ,music games sloths or whatever!

    My daughter and son like to get gift cards. it seems more like a present than just receiving cash.Although they know money is money.

    I would give a prepaid card as a gift, but for my own child I would prefer the cash so they can physically see what they're spending and how much they have left instead of just a swipe of a card.
