Considering the weak economy, if you had to replace a brand name product you purchase for something less expensive, which would you more likely choose?

Recently, the economic news about stronger than expected retail sales, has given many a glimmer of hope!  As shoppers however, we seem to be constantly looking for smart ways to save money.

If you were going to switch brands from a national brand to a less expensive brand, would you be more likely to do this for household products like paper towels/detergent or personal care products like face cream and deodorant?

We’d like to hear what you think!

More likely to replace a brand name household product (e.g., paper towlels) with a generic version (87.3%)

More likely to replace a brand name personal care product (e.g., face cream) with a generic version (12.7%)

Considering the weak economy, if you had to replace a brand name product you purchase for something less expensive, which would you more likely choose?

I would of chosen neither but chose personal hygiene as there are some paper products....certain paper towels, toilet paper , female only products, plastic items , etc that can not be replaced with a no name brand or its just like throwing the money away...they are such a waste and some can't be used for other reasons. Thinking there has been some nice not so much not name brands but name brands also offered in dollar store that worked fine... then again technically they are not name brands they are just the ones being offered for a dollar. Have to love that.

I use various brands of paper products, whatever is less expensive. I have no problem with that. There are certain facial products that I have to use due to skin issues, so I have to be careful what I pick.

I would buy generic paper towels - throw them away anyway. You can't buy cheap face cream, shampoo and such - it affects you way you feel and look.

I have already replaced some of my personal care products. I bought generic vicks vapor rub and it is $1 compared to $7 for vicks and has the exact same ingredients. I also found generic oatmeal lotion (like aveeno) for $1 it works great! I wouldn't replace my face cream, deoderant or shampoo at this point, but if I found something comparable for much less money I sure would!

I would replace the paper because you just throw it away, the personal products last along time.

Paper towels are thrown away and the inexpensive ones usually do the job. Face care products are going on my skin.
