Of the following compliments, which would you want to hear the most?

We asked this question about a year ago and thought that it would be fun to do it again!

As women, different things motivate us. A group of friends recently got together and starting comparing notes on compliments. One had recently been told that she was beautiful. She said that it made her day. Another said that she would prefer to hear that she is special.

Perhaps, different comments are appropriate at different times but, it got us thinking about what we most liked to hear. There doesn’t seem to be a one size fits all.

What do you like to hear and why?

I love you (39.8%)

You're beautiful (22.9%)

You're smart (14.7%)

You're special (16.0%)

You're funny (6.5%)

Is "I love you" really a compliment? Isn't it more of a statement?

I chose you're special because I guess I'm very lucky,I hear I love you every day from my nieces and nephew. We are extremely close.

My boyfriend says I love you all the time, specially now that im pregnant , and I know he means it, but, I also want to hear him saying that I am smart. He does say it sometimes but that little word makes me feel like I can do anything .

I'm really lucky, my husband tells me all of the above often, but the best is the text mess that comes every once in a while. "I love you"...wow, he thinks about me!!!

I also had a hard time. In my life time I love you has been my mainstay, but your beautiful whould make my day because it has only been said two or three times. It's funny the things that are less said are the ones we want the most to hear!

I don't need to be told that I am loved....Feeling loved is more important. However, being told i am smart somehow feels like more powerful to my self esteem!

I feel confident in the love I have that surrounds me. I feel the more you give, the more you are likely to receive. I agree with the first comment about 'saying love too often'. I could have benefitted more from "you're beautiful", I never thought I was beautiful and had little confidence in my appearance. At 60, when I look back at my photos along, with friends, and with family - I was beautiful, but in my younger years could not see it. I now am satisfied in the beauty outwardly and inwardly I have. But the one place where I continually challenge myself to add and grow is my intelligence. I've worked very hard to attain knowledge. It is never ending what is available to learn, and it concerns me that there is still so much more to learn and know knowledge previously at the tip of my tongue now takes more effort to rely upon.

Like a lot of people say, I hear I love you all the time, but I never hear you're beautiful. It would be nice to hear it now and then.

Of course everyone loves to hear "I love you" but it is said often. I tell my husband several times a day I love him and he tells me he loves me. Sometimes I would just like to hear that he thinks I am beautiful. I know that may sound petty but after 18 years of marriage and five kids I want to know he still finds me attrative and desirable and when told you are beautiful it really makes you feel better about yourself and does wonder for the self esteem.
