Considering the weak economy, if you had to replace a brand name product you purchase for something less expensive, which would you more likely choose?

Recently, the economic news about stronger than expected retail sales, has given many a glimmer of hope!  As shoppers however, we seem to be constantly looking for smart ways to save money.

If you were going to switch brands from a national brand to a less expensive brand, would you be more likely to do this for household products like paper towels/detergent or personal care products like face cream and deodorant?

We’d like to hear what you think!

More likely to replace a brand name household product (e.g., paper towlels) with a generic version (87.3%)

More likely to replace a brand name personal care product (e.g., face cream) with a generic version (12.7%)

Considering the weak economy, if you had to replace a brand name product you purchase for something less expensive, which would you more likely choose?

I would replace household items with store brand or generic. I would not use generic personal care products. I like the products I use and they are made in the United States.

No way would I replace my beauty cream with a generic. Took me years to find just the right one... Paper towels are paper towels for the most part. You could always use 2 if 1 wasn't quite enough.

I think we put a lot of trust into personal care items that go on or in our bodies. Generic items may be just as good but there is a comfort in knowing the brand name and the trust associated with that brand. I am much more likely to buy only brand name items for my family's personal care as well.

I have tried less expensive brands. A lot of them do not work the same. Right down to paper towels. The cheaper ones are horrible. I am going to try a less expensive make up. I am just tired of spending 80.00 on it its crazy. It will be interesting to see the difference.

My personal care items are chosen not so much by the name brands but by what formulas are needed and so I would have to say that it would have to be the cleaning products would have to go to generic. I can go without specific cleaning items but not personal items.

I replace all my cleaning detergent for store brand because they do almost the same job that the name brand for a fraction of the cost. I also by store brand sodas and canned food, because they taste the same as the name brand. You just have to try it; some times you get really suprise how good a store brand it is and you save a lot of money. And even if you try it and you don't like it, doesn't matter because the store brand product are really inexpensive compare to the name brand. So you don't have to lose and a lot to gain if you try it.

I would replace my cleaning items before my face care products, but then you just have to do what you have to do, to survive, with the way things are.

I have been replacing household items with generics/store brands to save. However personal care items are mor difficult due to allergies, some things are not worth having a reaction and wasting the money spent to try new things. Sometimes we sacrifice in one area but just cannot in others, it takes work to strike a balance that works.
