When you buy brand name products over store brands, why do you do so? (Check all that apply)

Brand name vs. store brand...hmmm...there are so many factors we think about when choosing between brand names and store brands.  Price is often a big factor in our decisions, but we’re also thinking about product quality, convenience, and how comfortable we are with the brand.

Aside from price, what do you think about when choosing between a brand name and a store brand?

I'm attached to the brand names I've grown up with and always used (44.5%)

The brand name product is better quality (56.9%)

The brand name product costs less than the store brand (25.1%)

I'm concerned the store brand might not be available much longer (1.5%)

Depends on the products..have cut coupons for 32+ yrs, so go figure how much I save w/name brands. Some store brands are same as name brands, but as seen in other comments, yes, am picky bout mayo, toilet tissue, etc.

If there's not a huge difference in price, I will go with the name brand version of a product if I do like it better(i.e. SmartWater over my work's store brand, because I think it tastes better - it might be psychosomatic, but whatever works). With my cats, I absolutely have to buy particular brands of food and litter. For food, we have to buy prescription food from the vet - a 10 lb bag costs almost $40 and lasts about a month. And for litter, we must buy Fresh Step because it's the only one my girl Pistol will use. I'd rather spend extra on litter than have everything smell like cat pee forever. I'm not as picky about foods, though. I worked for a food broker for a while with my mom, and I learned that a big chunk of store brand products are actually manufactured by the big brands.

There are a few name brands that are just better than the store brand and I always buy them - contact lens solution, TP, mayo.

If I have a coupon and the brand name product is cheaper, hands down, that will be my purchase, though if the store brand is cheaper, i.e., canned veggies, I will purchase them. There are a few items, regardless of coupons or price I will always buy, Hellmans Mayonnaise, Heinz Ketchup, Scott's Toilet Paper, etc......

You have accountabilty with name brands. You know what you are getting and have a reputation behind it. They are going to stand behind what they sell. With store brands they don't really have anything to live up to.

Some things I just won't buy store brands - Mayo is one of them and my facial cream.
