Considering the weak economy, if you had to replace a brand name product you purchase for something less expensive, which would you more likely choose?

Recently, the economic news about stronger than expected retail sales, has given many a glimmer of hope!  As shoppers however, we seem to be constantly looking for smart ways to save money.

If you were going to switch brands from a national brand to a less expensive brand, would you be more likely to do this for household products like paper towels/detergent or personal care products like face cream and deodorant?

We’d like to hear what you think!

More likely to replace a brand name household product (e.g., paper towlels) with a generic version (87.3%)

More likely to replace a brand name personal care product (e.g., face cream) with a generic version (12.7%)

Considering the weak economy, if you had to replace a brand name product you purchase for something less expensive, which would you more likely choose?

I have been replacing some household products for a while now, even before these hard times. I try to buy things on sale and with coupons to help save money in anyway I can. Meals are amazing with what you can whip up with just about anything in the house. My family has had Mac and Cheese so many different ways. And also when things are on sale......STOCK UP....STOCK UP.......Spag. with bread is also a great filler. Noodles, beans, soups can be real cheap dinners. Every once in a while you have to splurge.

It's much easier to find a substitution for a household product then a personal care product!

I have tried generic paper towels, napkins, plates, cleaning products. I have even tried generic brand foods. I have no problem buying the generic brands. I am just picky on certain things like toilet paper, deoderant and shampoo. Some generic foods also I don't care because the taste is so different...like instant potatoes...will buy name brand!

Generic cleaning products many times are as good as the name brands. There are a couple that I would not scrimp on but for the most part generic items are just fine for cleaning, etc.

When it comes to quality, household items don't really matter much.

I would replace household items much more easily than personal prodcuts. Face care products are what I will pay full amount for/

I'm already shopping generic for throw away products like paper towels. However, I am still buying my cosmetics and facial care products as usual, but just a little bit less frequently.
