When you buy brand name products over store brands, why do you do so? (Check all that apply)

Brand name vs. store brand...hmmm...there are so many factors we think about when choosing between brand names and store brands.  Price is often a big factor in our decisions, but we’re also thinking about product quality, convenience, and how comfortable we are with the brand.

Aside from price, what do you think about when choosing between a brand name and a store brand?

I'm attached to the brand names I've grown up with and always used (44.5%)

The brand name product is better quality (56.9%)

The brand name product costs less than the store brand (25.1%)

I'm concerned the store brand might not be available much longer (1.5%)

I use coupons and I buy whatever is on sale.

One thing that I have found is that if I am using something in a casserole or such, it would be mixed with other items so the store brand product is fine, as long as it's cheaper and still of good quality. Once you mix it in with all the other items, you really don't notice if the taste is not quite as good as if it were on it's own. Just one small way to save some money!

Must haves: Heinz ketchup,Hellmanns mayo,Charmin TP,Folger's or 8'oclock coffee,Cascade,Dawn, and Purina pet food...other than that I only buy brand names when I have a good coupon to match with a sale price that makes it cheaper than store brand

There are very few store brand things that I will buy. I use coupons and stockpile, so I always get name brands for less than the store brands. Most store brand canned veggies and frozen veggies are awful, as if they are "seconds." I prefer name brands that I know.

Certain brands have better taste and quality that I just won't give up. Mayo, ketchup, toilet paper to give examples.

It depends on the product. I will buy items such as paper towels and toilet paper as a store brand but not food items. If I am cooking with the food product I may select items such as canned fruit or sour cream that is store brand. Generally I have found the brand name food product to be a better quality. Plus they usually offer coupons, whereas the store brand does not.

I can get a better deal on Brand name products with coupons a lot of times, if not, except for toilet paper, soda and a few others I would buy store brand.

I am open and willing to try store brands, especially when the price is right or I have a coupon. I will, however, only make a repeat purchase IF the quality of comparable to the name brand I've been using. In many cases, it does and I'm happy to save money. There are some products, however, that I am brand loyal to because the quality is noticeably superior. Some of the brands that come to mind are: Pop-Tarts, Ritz crackers, Cascade, Nestle chocolate chips, toilet paper, etc.

Like most every comment before me, I cannot use any other ketchup but Heinz and my mayo has to be Hellman's. I do try store brands, but I will not compromise taste for money - that would be silly as far as I am concerned. Two years ago I decided to stop paying out good money for bottled water - my grandmother stopped rolling over in her grave at that time.
