I have had few problems with the store brands related to Trader Joe's and Target. They are usually better than the big names and at a fair price point. I think the Safeway/Vons brand has been the worse in my experience.

I think overall, many store brand products have improved lately which helps the consumer save money and keep quality in this economic stage. There are some brand name products that I will not substitute, however, I do try store brands quite frequently. If I like them, I purchase them often.

I've found that some products are equally as good in the store brands as they are in the name brands. However, some if store brand stuff is really awful. Cheese is one product that comes to mind. I never buy store brand cheese, but I will buy store brand milk. It's kind of trial and error.

Some stores such as Walmart have increased selling their own food brand for a lower price and it tastes the same way but costs less.

store brands in general have improved substantially throughout the years. i remember when no matter if it was food, beauty, or even household items were really bad. i didn't think they were worth it to purchase again. i would prefer to pay the full price on the name brand. i am happy that now a days i can buy the cheaper item without regretting it in the end.

often store brands are actually produced and distributed from the exact same plants as the name brands, just under different labels. If you start reading labels, you will be surprised!

I like the Kroger and Sam's Club store brands. I don't automatically select the store brands at Kroger because I find that sometimes the name brands are cheaper when on sale or with a coupon. Overall, though, I appreciate having the choice.
