Did you donate to the Haiti relief effort?

Americans donated $32 million to the Red Cross’ Haiti fund via text message. Statistics showed that 19% would rather text a donation to a cause or nonprofit organization than through other means (e.g., write a check or donate online).  Did you donate?  If so, did you text message?  Please tell us what you think.  We want to know!

Yes (51.6%)

No (38.2%)

N/A, helped in another way (10.2%)

Did you donate to the Haiti relief effort?

Yes, we donated. I would just like to comment that I wish some bigger effort would be made in our country to help our homeless and needy.

I completely agree with msfriendly. I think its terrific that the world has rallied to help in Haiti. We should be doing it more at home on an ONGOING basis. We need to make giving back a bit more integrated into the fabric of our culture and consciousness!

I agree with msfriendly. It is great to help out other countries, but..........what about OUR crisis? We have alot of problems here and there is very little being done for the homeless problem, and our money issues

I agree with msfriendly as well. Our own crisis has absolutely crippled our lives and way of living, way of thinking, our hopes and dreams. Not to mention the pre-crisis, ongoing battles with poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, drugs, starving children (I think you all know where I'm going with this) all the horrible things happening in our own country. I give all the credit in the world to those who have reached out to the folks in Haiti, God Bless them all, don't get me wrong ladies - I'm just a little more American than I am humanitarian, I guess.

I collected from my kids school old and gently used shoes for the "soles for soles" charity.

I was told once that there are 3 ways to contribute to community service: money, power, and time. If we can donate one of these (or more!) to the victims of Haiti, we can do so at home too. So empower yourselves, ladies, and get involved if you're not already. Run a local food drive, join Habitat for Humanity, help build a home in Appalachia....you get my drift. I applaud all of you for voicing your national pride - just know, it's people like you who actually care who can make a difference - but only if you act.

It would be wonderful if the cell phone companies would make texting @ $10.00 available for all of our problems in this country (homelessness, hunger, poverty, those without medical insurance, etc.) and we wold be able to donate with ease when we have a few spare dollars and it would evolve into an extraordinary contribution. I texted a donation three times for the Haitian disaster. I think it's incumbent upon large companies like AT&T, Sprint and Verizon to do the heavy lifting, so to speak. It involves a little work for them and that would be part of their contribution.

If we had the extra money to spare, we probably would have donated something. But, unfortunately, we are very affected by this poor economic time as well. I agree with all of you that it is great to help Haiti but I think there needs to be more focus on our own country's hardships.

We donated to the Clinton foundation and texted for the $10 donation as well. I agree with what others have said- we need some kind of relief effort like that for our country too though. I know Haiti is in far worse shape, but just a little help for the homeless, hungry, uninsured, etc would go a long way in this country.
