Eating out with friends? How do you pay the bill? Tell us to win $25!
on Sep 12, 2018

When you eat out with friends, do you split the bill evenly, contribute just what you ate, or take turns paying? Do you use Venmo, PayPal, credit cards, cash or something else? How has this changed since mobile payments became commonplace? Tell us your favorite bill-paying strategies and you'll be entered to win $25 toward your next meal (paid how you want to spend it: Venmo, PayPal, or Amazon gift card!) Enter through September 30, 2018. Winner will be randomly selected and must be a U.S. resident at least 18 years of age.

We try for separate checks but when that?s not possible we split it down the middle.

We usually just separate the tickets. PayPal is my favorite pay choice.

We usually just do separate checks. It's easier all around and the server ends up getting more of a tip since they're being paid by more than one person.

It really depends. Some places don;t mind splitting the bill. Other times, we'll all chip in cash or one person will take care of the bill.

We always ask for separate checks. My husband and I rarely drink at restaurants - too much of a mark-up. We usually go to places that offer coupons. We pay with credit cards that offer bonus cashbacks for using them at restaurants. Then I use the points from my credit card to get gift cards to my favorite places to eat! And that is just one of the ways we save money and were able to retire 9 years ago at 47.

We always have the server do separate checks unless it's just myself and one other than one of us may give cash to the other for their portion.

I usually pay for what I ate using cash or credit card. I use PayPal for all of my online purchases but haven't for dinner out yet.
