The New Year is upon us, did you make a New Year's resolution?

New Year is usually a great time to reassess the past year and to create some goals and plans for the coming year's events. Everyone seems to have a different approach to the practice of New Year's resolutions. What do you and other SheSpeaks members want to achieve or change in 2008? If you’ve had some real success with a past years’ resolutions we’d love to hear your inspiring stories.

For some people New Year's resolutions can involve a very similar list each year. With renewed willpower and good intentions to stay the course for a healthier and more prosperous year ahead. For others, resolutions require a freshly numbered list of clear and achievable goals. It's very satisfying to achieve that goal and cross it from the list with a feeling of empowerment and motivation to tackle the next milestone resolution. Do you usually write a list or are you more inclined to take some time to think of a mental-list to help you start the year on the right path?

Do you share your resolutions with friends and family or post it somewhere visible? Does this help you to stay on track or have you found you achieve greater success if you keep your list to yourself?

If you answered ‘no’ in the poll perhaps you have never seen the point of creating a list of resolutions or maybe you constantly assess and reset goals in your life – all year round. Is that a successful strategy for your life?

Whatever your New Year's Resolutions we’d love to hear your comments.

We’d also like to wish all the SheSpeaks Members a very happy, healthy and successful 2008!

I don't make a New Year's resolution because it's too grand of a gesture & in the past has just set me up for failure. Instead, when I want/need to change something, I try to make a list & write down little goals that are more realistic and easier to accomplish until I make the needed change...it helped us pay off our credit cards over last year!

usually i'm not so great about keeping my resolutions, but this year i'm finally keeping this resolution. my first goal is to quit smoking. in order to do that i have to give up coffee and alcohol. so i've given myself a month to stay off the tempting beverages. after a month, i can reward myself... but only a little. because once i feel confident with conquering nicotine, i'm going to focus on my weight. i would like to lose 15 lbs. and tone up some more. i'm giving myself 3 months to achieve an 8 lb. weight loss.i think if you have short and long term goals, and also a defense plan, keeping your resolutions would be easier...i guess i'll find out!

The key to a good resolution is being realistic and only making one if truly can keep it. Don't make a resolution to lose more weight that you really can, how about eating healthier instead? Try going small first then you can always do more. Don't set yourself up for a disappointment.

I have never really made resolutions in the past. However, this year I am making one that is extrely important and one I CAN'T fail at. I have Type 2 Diabetes and am a terrible Diabetic. My resolution (with my doctors help) is to start to do the right thing with my disease. I vow to my husband and children as well as myself NOT to fail this time!

Last year I just let my resolutions go by the wayside, but I usually stick to my resolutions. I make them based on what I feel I can really achieve and then I go a little further. It keeps me motivated!

No resolution for me. I decided that I need to make the right choices throughout the year and stick with them. If I make it a "New Year's Resolution" I manage to justify that it was made to be broken. Instead, I've tried to be a better mom, stick at it with the gym, etc... without calling them resolutions, I also don't feel as though it's cut and dry - pass or fail.

I decided not to make a resolution. Everytime I do I can never seem to stick to it.
