Eczema skin

My husband and daughter have eczema, more my husband. I use Aveeno baby for her skin since it's not so bad that it turns red anymore. My husband's skin gets SO bad during the drier colder weather (NOW). Any suggestions on a non-oily/greasy easy to find product?

My daughter has terrible eczema, and the best product we have found is prescription (and it also happens to be non-greasy once it is absorbed). Most regular docs don't know about it, but the dermatologist does, it is called Dermasmooth. if you're not wanting to do prescription though, we have found pure Shea butter to be helpful, though it is somewhat greasy. Coconut oil, while unfortunately also greasy, can help too. I hope you can find something that works!!

I work as a consultant in the beauty department at Walgreens and have both sampled and heard customer reviews about many eczema creams. Vanicream and Neosporin both make eczema creams that are generally EXTREMELY helpful, and are not too oily nor do they dry out skin. From my experience, the Neosporin Essentials moisturizing cream works fastest, and has very little to no adverse effects or discomfort on application. Vanicream also works quickly, though not as fast as the Neosporin, and is very effective. It is also a better deal in terms of cost per ounce. It is also great relief for not only eczema, but any dry skin so can be used daily (usually after shower) to keep skin soft and moisturizer even if you aren't suffering from eczema. If the aveeno stops working for your daughter, I'd recommend Babyganics Bye Bye Dry - provides great relief very quickly, and free from cortisone, steroids, and toxins. Hope your family finds relief!

It depends on what type of eczema. If you've been to a dermatologist, they can either look or get a test done to determine which type. I have hand eczema - but not the traditional red rash type - I get little bumps on my fingers (some people get it on their palms as well). I can feel the tingly feeling when they are coming up within a day. It took some time to figure out what it was. I did lots of online research and read some good books including Eczema Free For Life. Basically, I have it under control by regulating and eliminating the "triggers" -which I first had to figure out what they were. For me, prolonged hot water, hand sanitizer, and prolonged heavily scented lotions/soaps/etc. set it off. While I had the first painful itchy outbreak, I wore cotton gloves with latex gloves over them and wrapped a rubber-band around my wrist while showering or doing dishes. I wore the cotton glove for about two weeks (the outbreak had been going on about three months at that point).

I cured eczema by avoiding NIGHTSHADES. I finally found a cure by realizing that Eczema is a reaction to certain foods or chemicals. I?ve had eczema for as long as I could remember and it wasn?t until recently that I figured out NIGHTSHADES (peppers, eggplant, tomatoes?) were the source of my skin irritations. Since then, I've been eczema-free. Start by eliminating certain foods after a rash occurs so that you can figure out what to avoid. I wish a doctor had told me that simple truth a long time ago, but then again, most are in the business of making money, not giving permanent cures. A lot, if not all things can be healed naturally. To cure it, it?s not about putting ointments or shea butter on it, those only mask the symptoms- with eczema, it?s simply about eliminating substances you react to.

My daughter has horrible eczema. Her eczema could be related to one of her allergies or a combination of things. The doctor recommended she try HYDROLATUM. Apparently this is the best known secret in eczema care. It is behind the counter at the pharmacy and most likely a pharmacist will have to order it for you, BUT you do NOT need a prescription. The formula was created by dermatologists at Children's Hospital in Boston (where we go for my daughters dermatologist). Good luck!

I have had eczema all my 48 years. The best thing to use during flare ups is plain old oatmeal (in the cardboard-Quaker Oats). Just put a handful in a clean, thin white sock. Tie this in a knot and use in the bath and shower. Just get it wet and drip it all over your skin. Good for skin with no problems. This will relieve the itch and help cut down on scaling. Then buy the biggest container of plain old Vaseline you can find. Place one next to every faucet and tap in your home. Whenever you are done bathing or showering or using water anywhere on your affected skin, before drying off, put a think layer of this on and then pat dry. These are the two best products to use. The worst things to use are Rx and OTC corticosteroids. They only thin out the skin and are a Band-Aid. Hope this helps!
