Over the last year, we’ve seen a big spike in home gardening. Many of us who never donned garden gloves before are gearing up for a whole new season of planting, pruning and picking. According to the seed and plant company Burpee, there were more than 18 million new gardeners in 2020. That's a lot of planting!

Whether you're farming a sprawling landscape or you have one indoor plant on your windowsill, check out the gardening trends that are in store for 2021.

Plus, enter to win an Herb Garden Kit to grow fresh herbs you can enjoy in your cooking ($50 value)!

The Immunity Garden

If you're into growing things you can eat, the Immunity Garden is right for you. According to The Spruce, the immunity garden takes vegetable gardening one step further by focusing on edibles that are high in nutrients and immunity-enriching vitamins, such as tomatoes, broccoli, spinach and carrots. If you don't have a yard, you can still grow many of these veggies in pots. Just put them somewhere they get plenty of light, like your porch or balcony.

If you need something to get your veggie garden growing, SheSpeaks members recommend Jobe’s Fertilizer Spikes. CHollins uses the brand and says, “We grew some good sized tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, bell peppers, jalapenos and watermelon to say it was our first try. This would be our second year gardening. Get this for your tomatoes and I promise it will help them grow.”

So many of us are looking for peaceful spaces we can retreat into. Carve out an outdoor space to think, have a cup of tea, meditate, read or even do some yoga. Check out our Pinterest board for ideas on cultivating this space by adding all of your favorite scented plants and flowers.

The good news is that you can achieve a Quiet Garden anywhere.  Try puting those plants in pots and surrounding yourself in a corner of your home. Or head to a public park and find yourself an out-of-the way tree to sit under.

The International Herb Garden

International Herb gardens are meant to bring the tastes from all over the world to your kitchen. Our favorite herbs are thyme, oregano, basil, mint and cilantro but there are so many to choose from. Buy whatever you like to eat - or whatever they have at your local garden store. Whenever you are cooking, just clip off some leaves and drop them into the pot. It will add a flavorfull kick to your cuisine.

No backyard? No problem. Herbs are especially easy to grow inside. Just put the pots near a window and periodicallly give them water. Enter below to win an herb garden kit to grow your choice of sweet basil, bouquet dill, cilantro, parsley and oregano.

Use your fresh herbs to try this recipe from SheSpeaks member Henrietta for Easy Grilled Sweet Corn with Herb Blossom Butter - you can use whatever herbs you grow!

Garden of Joy

For those looking to get creative and love to have fresh, vibrant bouquets of flowers in their home - the Garden of Joy awaits. HGTV star Kelly Edwards says “You can grow a wide variety of vibrant flowers together in your garden, then pair blooms of the same shade together to create beautiful and tasteful bouquets for your home.” Think of it as a garden that has but one job, to put a smile on your face when you look at it.

If you plan to include roses (who wouldn’t?) in your garden of joy, SheSpeaks members highly recommend Bahco Harvesting Snips. RaquelC says, “Easy for pruning especially roses which need constant upkeep.”

What are your favorite garden plants? Tell us to win an Indoor/Outdoor Herb Garden Kit!

I can if I bring it to work. I don't get a lot of natural light at home and even if I found a spot my dog would knock it over.

I love planting and tending my patio garden every year. I always do basil and thyme since my husband makes sauce often.

We plant a small veggie garden on the side of our house and have been doing pretty well - basil, rosemary, mint, tomatoes, eggplant.

I'm pretty excited about this year's gardening efforts.  My broccoli is starting to emerge - first time try for me!  I also have peppers, onions, garlic, tomatoes, chilis and pepperoncini.  My mint is doing very well, as is my basil.  My rosemary came back to life, but I would really like to grow some sage, parsley and thyme.

I have cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, onions, Malabar spinach, lemon basil, and lime basil in my raised beds, plus rosemary and mint varieties on the side of the house.

I am making a veggie and herb garden this year. Potatoes, sweet potato, corn, cucumber, peas, tomatoes, bell and hot peppers, spinach, dill, mint, cilantro, basil. Maybe chamomile and lavender.

Last year I had cucumber and peas that didn't do so well, I think they were too close together. Tomatoes and peppers did well; as did mint, sage, oregano and dill. We planted too many pumpkins in our space last year but did end up with about 10 pumpkins anyway.

Looking forward to gardening! Putting peas and spinach down this weekend and the rest on about may 8. Hubby already has tomatoes and peppers down in his greenhouse. I'm not putting up a greenhouse since we had no pest or freeze issues last year.
