If you can’t go a day with nibbling on a savory piece of delicious cheese, but worry about what it’s doing to your health - you may not have to. A new study suggests a daily dose of the yummy stuff may actually be heart healthy, as long as it’s in moderation of course.

Time reports about a review published in the European Journal of Nutrition that studied a link between health benefits for those who tend to incorporate cheese in their daily diets. Researchers found that those who eat a small amount of cheese each day were 14% less likely to develop heart disease and 10% less likely to suffer a stroke than those who never or rarely eat cheese. Even though cheese is very high in the often dreaded saturated fat, there is still a lot scientists do not know about which types of fats and nutritions sources will benefit the heart. Authors of the review believe that it’s possible the beneficial nutrients like calcium, protein and probiotics found in cheese may be what’s causing the boost in health.

Okay - so maybe you can indulge in that decadent dairy item, but just keep in mind that there definitely is such a thing as too much of a good thing when it comes to cheese. The participants in the study who say the most health benefits were only eating about 40 grams of cheese per day (about the size of a matchbook). So, that grilled cheese and ooeygooey pizza should still be your once in a while treat.

What do you think of the current study that suggests daily cheese consumption may come with some health benefits?
