If you’ve ever shopped at Ikea, you are probably all too familar with the painstaking process of putting their furniture together or begging someone else to do it for you. Now, thanks to some saintly scientists - an IkeaBot can get the job done for you.

TechCrunch reports about the project created by Control Robotics Intelligence (CRI) in Singapore that has designed robots to efficiently put together Ikea furniture. And even for robots, Ikea furniture assembly is a two-bot job. Two robots work in tandem, one holding a chair’s legs while the other places and tightens screws in place.

Though the Ikea bots are still in testing phases, they can assemble an Ikea chair in about 20 minutes (which is probably about how long it takes you to get everything out of the packaging). Scientists are optimistic about the future of these types of bots and their ability to easily determine the multi-step process of putting all types of Ikea poducts together. They “envision such a sequence being automatically determined from the assembly manual, through natural-language interaction with a human supervisor or, ultimately, from an image of the chair.”

What do you think of the new IkeaBots?

Would you be more likely to purchase Ikea furniture if a bot could help you put it together?
