When consumers stop and take the time to look at the label of a product, they will most likely skim over the large words that they have never heard of. But this most definitely becomes more harmful then it is helpful. There are two chemicals in Green Work's compostable wipes that cause concern for both people and the environment. The two are methylisothiazolinone and octylisothiazolinone (?Green Works Naturally Derived Compostable Wipes?). Methylisothiazolinone is most commonly used as a preservative in products. It has been found, though, to have caused high irritation to places like the eyes and skin. It has been tested and seems to be harmful to mammals, so it should be questioned as to why it is in this ?all green? product (?Methylisothiazolinone?). The second chemical, octylisothiazolinone, has been found to be very harmful in more than one way for the environment. Not only does it cause skin damage and irritation, but octylisothiazolinone is also toxic to aquatic life (?Octylisothiazolinone?). Clearly, Green Works is continuing to use these harsh chemicals even in the products that they claim are green. Though they are using less harmful products compared to Clorox's other endeavors, Green Works is not being completely honest in their eco-friendly advertisement.
